3-way Vented Floorstanding Speaker - Design Goals

• Acoustical - Tight low end response with F3 in the 20s. Moderate max SPL only, high max SPL a plus but not a requirement. Softer high end, preferably with a textile rather than a metal dome tweeter. Clear, detailed midrange.
• Physical constraints - A floorstanding speaker in tower or similar shape. Minimize frontal width at the expense of depth. Height is negotiable. Max internal volume in the 3 cu. ft. range.
• Looks - Due to the potential size and prominent placement in the room, high SAF is a must. All sides must be presentable (front and rear). Place terminal cup at the bottom to avoid seeing it.
• Cost - No more than $300 USD each for all parts yet rival commercial units costing $1K USD on up.
• Education - Most of my woodworking projects include something new that I've not done before. This allows me to learn new skills and gather knowledge as the project progresses. Speaker building should be no different.
• Other - Provide easy access to crossovers for any future changes.
